The project
SourceTrace is built by @vdotdev in Toronto.
The aim is practical: make it easier to find a useful source, inspect the credit, and share it with the image. The report keeps the evidence accessible so a lead can be checked or corrected.
Why the sources matter
A matching image can come from an artist, a fan, or an account that reposts other people’s work. Finding a copy is one part of the search. Understanding its connection to a creator takes more evidence.
SourceTrace keeps image matches and creator attribution separate. You can open the public posts, read the available credits, and see where the evidence is incomplete. Read how reports are assessed.
During beta
The site is free to use and has a shared search allowance. Coverage depends on what is publicly accessible; private, deleted, and unindexed posts may be missed.
